Santa Barbara Fire Update – Good News!

December 29th, 2017 · No Comments · California Real Estate, Santa Barbara, Thomas Fire

GOOD NEWS! December 29, 2017

On December 21, 2017 all evacuation notices (mandatory and voluntary) were lifted pertaining to the Thomas Fire (now the largest Wildfire in California’s history) that began on December 4, 2017.  Only 3 homes were destroyed in Montecito thanks to the amazing efforts by firefighters, and according to KSBY 12 homes were destroyed by the fire in community of Carpinteria. Most of the homes and structures reported on the news destroyed by the fire occurred in Ventura County.

For the past week Santa Barbara has experienced blue skies and breathable air. As of today the fire is 91% contained. What’s left of the fire is on the backside of the Santa Ynez mountains that’s visible to planes flying in and out of Santa Barbara. It appears we’ve turned a significant corner on December 21, 2017. Most of the firefighters from out of the area that came to help have returned home. At one time there were almost 8000 firefighters here with that number dropping to around 1500 at present.

By appearances Santa Barbara has returned to normal. People that had evacuated have returned. Schools reopen on January 2nd. Signs have popped up all over thanking the firefighters.  People are out and about shopping, hiking, and frequenting their favorite restaurants. Much thanks goes out to the firefighters and first responders that made this all possible. On a humorous note, an Adult Store (XXX) on State Street has a sign out that reads 30% off for First Responders.
